CRYSTAL MOON GALLERY
David Dobson creates mineral spheres using machines that he has designed and/or built himself.  The process is very time-consuming, and requires quite a number of steps and processes in order to be successful.  David specializes in large spheres, from 5-inches to over a foot in diameter.

A word on sizes is necessary.  Each stone is cut individually.  And, the process of machining the surface takes unique directions with each stone.  Therefore a 'nominal' 5-inch sphere may be a little smaller (or larger) than the target size.

5-inch Lepidolite Sphere
This sphere has a very nice lilac color that
was not well represented in any of our
photographs.  As with most Lepidolite, it also
displays tiny flakes, not unlike metal-flake paint.

Cut from Texas Septarian Nodule.
Found in the Eagle Ford formation, this nodule
contains voids where the original shale
(aka mudstone) has separated from the Calcite
